Bit Trip Beat was developed by Gaijin Games and published by Aksys Games. It was released for download on March 16th 2009.

What do you get when you take pong (the classic 70s one) and throw in a techno/8 bit soundtrack, lots of flashing colors and super challenging gameplay……well you get Bit Trip Beat. Bit Trip Beat is a pong like rhythm game; players move a paddle onscreen in order to bounce off waves of incoming blocks to the beat of music.

As players progress the waves of music and blocks becomes increasingly complex, some blocks will even bounce of the paddle and come back multiple times. Along the way there are challenges the player can complete for more points (challenges are not optional), challenges include making the paddle smaller or larger for a certain period of time, or actually giving you two paddles to manipulate (every block you hit with either the small or large paddle will gain you twice the points, same thing goes for dual paddles)

At the end of every level there is a boss battle, if you have ever played that game tank (that plastic dollar store electronic game) the boss fights are the same. The boss drops pieces of its self that you have to deflect back, once the boss runs out of pieces you win. But like the main game if enough pieces are missed you will lose the game. If you are having trouble in the game Bit Trip Beat has Four Person Co-op, you and three other friends can play through the “campaign”. Lastly leaderboards are also present in the game, sorry no online ones.

Graphics wise from the soundtrack to the look of the game is styled after the games of yesteryear……..meaning the game has a distinctive 8Bit look and feel to it. It suits the game perfectly and just wouldn’t be as good any other way. Gameplay wise the game is very fun and unique but don’t let that get to your head, this game is also super challenging.

Overall Bit Trip Beat is one amazing game this is a must own for all Wii owners, the graphics and gameplay are very unique and the multiplayer and music make this an extremely fun game to play with friends. Points of criticism are, there are no online leader boards.

“Some times a great game is just awesome” when it comes to Bit Trip Beat this is so true on many levels and because of that it gets a 10 out of 10
